Bouchons Trescases / Quality and Guarantees

Quality and Guarantees

a symbol of quality and tradition, is the ultimate guarantor of the preservation and enjoyment of your favorite wines.

One of our objectives is to avoid the well-known corky taste that sometimes spoils a tasting session. Cork taint comes from TCA trichloroanisole, a molecule synthesized by the action of molds present in cork and chlorinated compounds, chlorophenols, originating from treated tree bark, air or chlorinated products used in wineries. TCA is responsible for 70% of cork taint, and it only takes a few nanograms to contaminate a slab of cork.

Today, thanks to new methods, quality controls and TCA detection systems, corked wines are increasingly rare.
At Bouchons Trescases, we have put in place a number of guarantees:

Trescases corks use the most advanced technology to combat TCA and sensory deviations: VSR treatment. This cutting-edge technology eliminates TCA and other volatile compounds from cork (150 molecules potentially responsible for certain deviations) without altering its intrinsic physical and mechanical properties.
This process treats corks by 20,000 (for 49/24) in a natural way, since it uses only pressure, temperature and time according to the thermal desorption method.

Bouchons Trescases has been affiliated with CE Liège since its creation in 1987.

Co-founded by Georges Trescases in 1987, the European Cork Confederation (CE.Liège) represents all players in the European cork industry, bringing together producers, manufacturers and distributors. CE.Liège brings together members from 6 countries (France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and Portugal).

CE.Liège’s main mission is to promote the cork industry and encourage the use of this material with its exceptional properties. The ultimate aim is to improve research, establish international standards and share knowledge on this material through research programs in collaboration with other wine-making bodies and organizations.

Quality control at every stage of production

All our products are subjected to meticulous controls, using precise measurement methods and tolerances.
In 2007, we implemented the HACCP and SYSTECODE procedures initiated by CE LIEGE, to control health safety, in addition to complying with ISO standards for impeccable traceability.
Since 2011, TRESCASES corks have been certified SYSTECODE PREMIUM for their compliance with the international corking code of practice, and SYSTECODE EXCELLENCE in 2016.

The Systecode certificate is issued by Bureau Veritas.

All our natural corks are controlled by a pressure test system to eliminate any risk of leakage due to corkworms, ant holes or excessive defects on the roll.

VSR/Naturity is a decontamination technique based on the principle of thermal desorption.

NDtech is an individual gas chromatographic analysis of each cap.

The world’s most innovative anti-TCA technology

We now use the NDTech solution, a revolutionary detection technology that is the most accurate and innovative in our sector. This solution enables us to produce natural corks without any detectable trace of Trichloroanisole. Each cork is individually tested, eliminating any risk of TCA contamination.

It individually controls each cork, eliminating any risk of Trichloroanisole (TCA) contamination. The level of precision is incredible: just 0.5 nanograms per liter!

All our corks are processed using this state-of-the-art technology, enabling us to analyze each cork individually. If a cork exceeds the threshold of 0.5 nanograms per liter, it is automatically withdrawn from the supply chain.

NDTech is a technology developed and patented by Amorim Cork.

The corks are carefully packed in hermetically sealed polyethylene bags in an S02 atmosphere, a gas that inhibits microbiological growth.

The cartons are then shipped on non-returnable pallets, with 20,000 to 40,000 corks per pallet.
